Much was expected from Imogen from the day she was born.

In some ways, she was just the daughter her parents wanted: pretty, petite, demure, graceful, polite. Magically talented, she was quite young when she surpassed her elder brother, Basil, in ability, though she was neither pleased by nor proud of the fact. She would have rather kept her talents to herself so that Basil wouldn’t feel bad, so that he’d love her, but her parents were exacting in their demands and more than willing to withhold approval and affection even from a small child to ensure the family’s good name.

By the time Imogen entered Hogwarts, she’d been trained to speak several foreign and archaic languages, in dance, literature, history, etiquette, and a variety of other subjects, as well as numerous magical arts.

The ways in which she disappointed her parents were small, at first, and easily overlooked in the face of Basil’s failures. She was far too soft, for one; she was kind to muggles and muggleborns and other dumb animals alike. While certainly it was only civilized to be courteous to those lesser than oneself, such as house elves and squibs, it was another matter entirely to treat them as equal beings under Merlin.

But she was magically gifted, and pretty, and pure, and polite.
When she was sorted into Hufflepuff, these failings became harder to ignore, but Basil’s obvious lack of magical ability diverted their frustration at Imogen’s apparent lack of grit. Her early placement into transfiguration and her consistently high marks in charms, herbology, and potions gave them hopes for a bright future.

Imogen had wanted to become a mediwitch; she had a talent for healing things. But her parents made it clear early on that it was quite modern enough that they were allowing her to consider a career at all, but medicine was a plebian bridge too far.

Her aspirations for medicine, however, fell by the wayside when her brother was transformed into a werewolf.

Their parents response was swift and brutal, and they expected her to fall in line in their ostracism of Basil – but for the first time, Imogen decided to defy them, if only in secret.

She immediately began to research everything she could find out about werewolves, and upon discovering that having an animagus companion with them during their transformations could prevent them from hurting themselves or others, Imogen immediately began practicing her transfiguration, beginning the long road to becoming an animagus.

Eventually, she succeeded, transforming into a King Charles Spaniel; from that point on, she was with Basil every full moon, though he wanted nothing to do with her the rest of the month. When her parents were sent to Azkaban, managing the estate and graduating Hogwarts ate up most of her time, but she faithfully found Basil every month and trotted along with him in her fox form to keep him safe.

When she did graduate, she got a job at the Ministry in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes as a member of the Experimental Charms Committee, where she worked until around the end of 2000. At that time, she decided to pursue a career as a healer, a path on which she's been achieving substantial success.

Magical Status Form

Magical Status: ANIMAGUS

Animagus Form & Distinguishing Marks: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with brown and white coloring, bright blue eyes, and a white "necklace" of fur around her neck.

Animagus Form Elaboration: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the perfect animal manifestation of Imogen Burke. The breed is highly affectionate, playful, extremely patient, and eager to please. As such, dogs of the breed are good with children and other dogs. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not shy about socializing with much larger dogs, and will adapt quickly to almost any environment, family, and location, and suit city and country life.

Their ability to bond with larger and smaller dogs makes them ideal in houses with more than one breed of dog as long as the other dog is trained. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are naturally curious and playful, but also enjoy simply cuddling up on a cushion or lap, making them excellent companion or lap dogs for medical patients and the elderly.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are active, sporting, and agile, and they also make wonderful therapy dogs due to their sweet, gentle natures. The breed is adaptable in their need for exercise, happy with either sleeping on the couch or taking long walks.

They have an instinct to chase most things that move including vehicles on busy streets, and so most Cavaliers will never become "street-wise". As they tend to regard all strangers as friends, members of the breed will usually not make good guard dogs. Spaniels have a strong hunting instinct and may endanger birds and small animals. However, owners have reported that through training their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels live happily with a variety of small animals including hamsters and gerbils.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's coat requires weekly brushing, but no trimming.
