Schematic 1 - Designing

Schematic 1 - Designing

Postby Xavier Audley » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:52 pm

Xavier woke, groggy and generally upset, as he did most mornings. A regular user of DSD, or dreamless sleep drought, waking up always took a good hour before he would find himself able to function properly. He rolled up to a sitting position, wearing one of his most ragged outfits from the day before, worn out sweatpants and a simple t-shirt. Both had holes, tears, stains, and were generally unfit for a properly functioning person to spend an entire day in. Today though, today was a work day. It would require one of the work suits. Today was a special work day, it would be the best suit. Blue, white shirt, decent pants, unstained, furthest right side of the closet, carefully sealed in its own protection bag.

Xavier let loose with an unintelligible scream, fighting off the DSD, trying to assert himself. Every day was hard, and usually he didn't try as hard to function, but today was a special work day. The nightstand next to his table hosted a collection of pill bottles, vials, and a vaporette. He snatched up the vaporette, and took a long drag on it, letting the Angel Wings seep into his system. The euphoria would help him get through the rest of the chemicals.

Next he bit the cork over a special metal flash, pulling it with his teeth and shooting it out of his mouth across the room, before taking a swig of the Calming Drought. Calm, euphoric, and a mental stimulant. More. Finish the entire set, for today was a work day. He put the flask on the table, the old cork he had shot out disintegrating where ever it had landed, and a new one forming over the flask. A fancier version of a no-spill spell.

Next would be the memory potion, possibly the most important of his morning routine. This was in vials, on a rack on the nightstand, one for each day. While it would leave him lightheaded, he had become used to the side effects, and it would counteract the side effects of the rest of the drugs he would need. Including the vial that was set next to each memory potion, one for each day, of oblivious unction. He was quick to swig down that as well, before placing both empty vials back in the rack. Underneath the rack was a small medicinal bottle with a dropper built into the lid. He picked it up, unscrewed the lid, and squeezed out one drop onto his tongue, stopping for a moment to consider, and then another drop, before closing it again and placing the bottle labeled Nox under the rack.

And that would have been it for his morning drugging, if it had not been a work day. He took another drag of the vaporette, letting the Angel Wings relax him again. None of these chemicals tasted particularly nice, especially not Nox. But it would keep his mind from ripping itself apart for another day. For the work day, he would be using his secondary set of drugs, kept in a drawer in his work station. First he would have to change, into the suit he had decided earlier, following his shower and general body maintenance.

Most days he didn't bother, but with a special work day, or a day he would most likely have to appear outside of his residence, he could usually force himself through the typical actions that would make him more presentable. He sat down at the desk, feeling invigorated by the cleaning, and ready to begin the work. But first, he would need a full boost for the day. He began with opening the drawer that would contain his secondary medications, specifically for work days. He placed the Angel wings vaporette into the drawer, and pulled out the other, one preloaded with Dragon Wisps. He took a long drag off of it to start, and then reviewed his collection of pixie dust. He didn't have much, it was harder to acquire. He did have a tube of yellow dust though, the strongest of what he did have. Today was a special work day, and would definitely need it. He took the tube and ate it. Then he removed a small, triangular green pill from a large bottle, and placed it under his tongue, letting it begin its fizzling as he closed the bottle. As his mouth began to fill with froth, he swallowed it quickly, actually enjoying the minty taste.

Considering all that he would have to figure today, he took out another small vial, and downed the Wideye potion. He would be useless tomorrow, but today would be a day of consistent high performance, which was important for a special work day.

He took another drag of the Demon Wisps, letting his concoction of chemicals, drugs, and medications seep into his system. There was one more thing he would need, but he dreaded it. He didn't want to. But he knew he had to. He began to yell for the one person he had spent so much time hiding from.

Unbeknownst to Xavier - mostly because it would upset him, he was sure - Bart had been observing his twin for quite a while. He'd badgered Persephone and Archie to do something about his drug habit, to at least admit that Xavier was extremely unwell and incapable of taking care of himself and that this state of affairs was clearly not acceptable, but then...well, they were Audleys. Historically, Audleys had not been able to muster five consecutive minutes of unselfish thought in three generations. Persephone and Archie had merely brought Xavier here. They seemed to have little interest in managing his wellbeing now that he was.

Thus, when Xavier finally addressed him, Bart was quite unprepared for it. He'd been hovering unobtrusively in a corner of the room, invisible, powerless to stop the carnival ride of drugs - his very presence enough to distress his twin if ever he made himself known. For a moment, Bart hesitated, not sure if he was being summoned or if Xavier was merely cursing his name in vain.

He didn't have anything to lose though, which was the only real benefit of being dead, and he manifested with a silent breath of air, adjusting the ghostly cuffs of the blazer he'd been wearing when he died. "There's no need to shout," he said dryly, lips quirking into an uncertain smile as he floated closer. "I'm dead, not deaf."

Xavier dropped in grief for a moment, hearing the voice that was his, but not his. This was going to be harder than he expected. He opened the drawer and took a drag of the Angel Wings, calming the twitching nerves firing like fireworks in his brain. The drugs that boosted his mental capacity had a strange combination of effects, allowing him to both multitask and also allowing him to deeply focus directly on one thing. But since both couldn't happen to his brain at the same time, it tended to simply flip-flop back and forth, depending on what distractions there were, or how complex the idea.

Thinking about Bartholomew for any given time meant his brain would immediately begin multi-tasking all the different aspects of their relationship, their situation, unless he could bring himself to refocus on the issue. So, he sat back in his chair, and didn't bother to turn around.

"Schematic 1. Have you read it?"

Xavier was careful with his journal, but he never knew when Bart was spying on him. In case Bart hadn't, Xavier took out his wand, tapped the page, and muttered the keyword to decrypt it. Each page of his journal was encrypted with a different keyword, to protect his information.

"I need to write the directions, to figure out the required resources, to put it into action."

Xavier's head suddenly snapped up, and his voice becoming a chanting monologue.

"Action, Effect, Cause, Relationship, Physics, Science, Magic, Wand, Core, Dead, Bartholomew, Fault." Xavier snapped his head forward with a gasp of effort. Ever since the fight, Xavier would have moments of forced thought processes, stringing words together. Seemingly striking at random, most often it would either quit after 10-20 words in the string, or he would break down emotionally when the train came to an emotional subject, most often the fight itself. Xavier took a moment to force his body to relax, swallowing the bile that rose up in his throat.

"How do I do it?" He asked, focusing again at the task at hand. While he may be smart, he never could wrap around how people would act, since he had no real comparable reference, he acting differently than most people would.

Of course he knew about the schematics. Of course he did. There was very little else he could occupy himself with down here in a land of endless darkness, unable to sleep, with few people to talk to and even fewer he would want to.

Bart feigned ignorance though, peering at the journal as if seeing it for the first time, his greyscale brows raising further up his near-identical face. They were different now, easier to tell apart - and not just because Bart was pearly white and see-through. Xavier had let his hair grow wilder and into the waves they were prone to, and he'd started sporting facial hair. Bart assumed it was easier to look at himself that way.

"You don't," he said bluntly. "Father and Cade and Rue don't want to be reunited with everyone else." That wasn't strictly true; as far as he understood it, Rue had been wanting to get to Archie for just about as long as he'd been in the Hollows - but she wanted him in Azkaban, neutralised. "You're on different sides now," he reminded Xavier. "You're enemies."

Xavier shook his head violently as Bart spoke.

"Only separated because of Muggles. Muggles don't matter. Separation is for no reason. Family before job, family before work. Work is to bring the family."

He took a drag on the Demon Wisps, not bothering to look up at his brother. As long as the voice was just another one of his own, he could keep focused. While the voice spoke subtly different, he could compensate by focusing on the work, knowing that it was to solve the problem. In all honesty, he didn't dare look at his brother.

"They want to be reunited. So obvious. So Simple. Why wouldn't they?"

A flat expression entered his gaze, a mirthless smile playing about his lips. "You don't remember, do you?" he prodded coolly. "Persephone sent Rue and Cade back to London the last time they ended up here. She and Archie don't want us to be a family either."

Xavier jumped to his feet and turned to face Bart. "No! They had to go away because... because Rue had her job, and she was being watched. She hugged me, she wanted to stay here. And Cade just didn't have enough time. Cade loves us!"

Xavier stood there, adrenaline beginning to pump from his act of sheer defiance. And he slowly began to realize who he was facing, and all that it meant. His eyes and mouth dropped slightly.

"They had to go. It wasn't their choice. I can bring them back. I can bring them back, it's not my fault."

Xavier felt tears beginning in the corner of his eyes, as he looked up at Bart.

"If they don't come back, then it's my fault. All my fault. They have to want to come back. They do want to come back."

Xavier slumped into his chair, his head hanging loosely down. He felt clearer headed than ever, and it made everything in him sting that much more.
