cellblock consequences. [una]

Postby Evelisse Andrews » Sun Dec 31, 2017 7:39 am

Evelisse bit the inside of her cheek to keep from crying out as she adjusted her thin frame away from in the corner of the crowded cell she shared with 7 others. Medical training told her it wasn’t anything fatal- 2, maybe 3 broken ribs on her left side. Her ivory sweater was filthy in dust, sweat, dirt, blood; prim ponytail ragged and in disarray. Her head was pounding. These things she could fix if her beautiful wand hadn’t been stripped away from her in the mayhem of the jailbreak. She was pulled out of the cell for questioning: What was her name, who were her parents, what was her job, what was her job before that, what about before that, why had she come to work at the prison… Later, to be sent back to the cell.

For the most part, Eve kept to herself- favoring to keep close to walls on her left side when possible, but otherwise entirely compliant. Until, one day in an unremarkable hallway that her keeper walked her past her mother and Eve’s feet resisted the march firmly. When the familiar woman in casual clothing, free of any restraints returned her gaze, Eve involuntarily reached out and lunged to the side for her. Her arms barely circled an embrace upon her mother when the redhead’s frame went limp with a stunning spell.

The harsh squeal of an unoiled metal hinge pierced her sluggish mind. She stirred, a green eye blearily attempting to fixate on a figure who moved closer to her, set something down, and then shut the cell door once again. Clumsily, Eve attempted to sit up but knocked the steel cup of water over on the floor beside her, drenching her sleeve and half of her pants. She attempted to move away from it, but felt her leg was heavier than usual. She groaned in irritation, realizing her misbehavior earned her a restraint—a heavy chain, few feet long, bolted into the wall. She looked at the guard to the different, smaller cell, which she now occupied alone. “This really isn’t necessary,” she protested about the restraint grumpily. “Can I please have a napkin or a towel… or something…” she mumbled hoarsely.

The guard was leaving when another one came in. This one was shorter and distinctly female, and she jabbed a thumb in Evelisse's direction as she conversed with the first guard. Torchlight from behind them silhouetted both their figures and painted them in deep, flickering shadows.

Sending the first guard away, she had only caught the last bit of what Evelisse had said. Her stance wide, she sauntered up to the bars of her cell and peered in, her lips peeling back in a grin that was little more than a flash of teeth. "You didn't wet yourself, didja hon? I keep telling them to make that chain longer so the stubby-legged folk can reach the can too."

Evelisse tucked her free ankle under her bum to prop herself into a seated position against the wall and keep the water from saturating her pants further. "No," she answered, shaking her head. Her eyes fell on the bucket 'toilet' in the corner. She wasn't looking forward to using it any time soon. "It's just water...." she nodded to the turned cup she'd spilled and tried to straighten up. "Knocked it over." She flattened her back against the wall and fixed her gaze on the new guard with a pitiful smile, "So you drew short stick and got stuck with me, eh?"

"Now what kinda attitude is that?" She chided as she slipped her wand out of her sleeve with a little twirl. Pointing it at Evelisse through the bars, she warned, "this'll sting a bit."

"Wha- wait," the words fell off her tongue, instinctively stalling as she tried unsuccessfully to shift her body further into the stone wall. Unluckily for her, rocks don't budge without a wand. She covered her injured left side with her wand arm defensively. "That's never a good sentence... Look, don't worry about the towel," she backpedaled.

"No pain, no gain," she caroled out in a voice sharp as broken glass. "Scourgify."

True to its name, the cleaning spell scoured down every surface of Evelisse's body, her clothes, and her hair--leaving everything spotless and dry, her skin pinkened, her clothing stiff as if freshly starched, and her hair frizzy with damage.

Re: cellblock consequences. [una]

In all honesty, that had not been the charm Evelisse expected from the guard. An uncomfortable hiss escaped her lips as the charm worked over her skin- a scrubbing sensation akin to a rough exfoliation with coarse, dry sand and no water. The feel of damp jeans stuck to her thigh vanished, the smell of her own odor dissipated. As the spell affected her body over the broken bones, Evelisse’s breathing faltered briefly as if wind had been knocked out of her. In moments, she found herself staring stunned at the dark-haired girl across the room. Coughing, she winced and dragged her chained leg up toward her torso, the pant material crinkling under the starched effect. “Um, thank you,” she said after the moment of shell-shock wore off. Her hand reached up and attempted to pat down the frizz, though she likely looked as if she’d stuck her finger in a muggle electrical outlet. “Something my mother would certainly say,” she smirked wryly, referring to the quip.

"What time is it?" she asked.

"What time zone're you asking for?" she asked brusquely. Without looking up, she tossed her hair over her shoulder as she slotted a key into the cell door and unlocked it.

"This one," Eve answered, watching Una curiously. She didn't move as the door unlocked.

"It's always ass o'clock here." There was a little chortling sound in her close voice as the door squealed open.

Eve's eyes narrowed slightly in fleeting annoyance, as being cooped up had already kept her disoriented and she wasn't sure how long the stunning spell had kept her out for. "Very funny," she answered as the girl clearly cracked herself up, "I guess if I asked the day of week too, it's Assday?" She stayed put as the door opened. It wasn't as if she'd get anywhere anyway with the shackle on her ankle.

"I guess that depends on who your cell mate is." Leaning against the side of the door, Una winked at her. Though unfortunately it was probably lost in the poor lighting, which silhouetted get from behind.

Re: cellblock consequences. [una]

"Oh, lovely," Eve returned with sarcasm, "So much to look forward to in here." She clasped her hands together in her lap and chewed her lip a moment. Her eyes flickered from the hall beyond the open door, to the rusted metal of the bars, to Una, to the torch hanging on the far wall. She didn't see the wink, and by the girl's tone, Eve couldn't tell if she was genuinely joking or not.

She waited a long moment, unsure really what to make of her. The scrubbing spell was generous enough, but she couldn't understand why Una was lingering in the doorframe. "If you're waiting for me to offer you tea, I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to do so," she said, waving her one foot side to side so that the chain rattled a bit on the stone floor.

Una had probably been checking her nails for dirt, which was why Evelisse got another sentence in there during the silence.

With a flick of her wand, the shackles fell off the prisoner and Una stood aside from the door to let her through. "C'mon, I've gotta take you through processing."
