ORACLE MALL
The Ministry's Muggle Front & Ground Floor'
This article was written by twufoo

Introduction:

The ground level of the Ministry has been bought out and renovated by muggles. The building has been turned into an indoor mall, complete with any shops you might want! While the location is quite lovely, it experiences the occasional electrical failure due to its proximity to such a large magical nexus. Oops!

Also, this means that MUGGLES are now open as playable characters on the Ministry! While they don't have to work at Oracle Mall, it's probably a good idea since it'll give them more roleplay opportunities.

Magical Secrecy & Muggles:

Most of the muggle workers in the ground level are unaware of magic’s existence. The few who are aware are probably family members of muggleborn witches or come from a line of squibs. The mall’s owner and managerial staff are aware of magic’s existence and work closely with representatives from the Muggle Liaison office to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Remember that witches and wizards are strictly forbidden to practice magic or reveal the magic world to muggles! Violations of magical secrecy will be addressed IC, through the Improper Use of Magic office and the Obliviator office.

Ministry workers who visit the mall must do their best to blend in with the muggle population. Because of this, muggle clothing is not only allowed, but encouraged within the Ministry.

Transportation & Access:

Certain toilets in the mall have been enchanted to flush directly into the Floo Network. People who flush themselves will pop out of the fireplaces in the Atrium.

This is in addition to the normal ways of entering the Ministry, which are:
    • Floo Network from home fireplaces
    • Red phonebooth visitor entrances,
    • Apparating directly into the Atrium ONLY (all other locations are protected)

JK HOWLINGS
Department Store

Description:

A large, middle-end department store that has Home, Electronics, Men’s, Women’s, and Children’s departments. The department store is poorly organized and confusing to get around in. For some reason, it has a large number of wolf t-shirts in the clearance section.

BUFFALO SOLDIER
Head Shop

Description:

Buffalo Solider is your quintessential mall head shop; there are are M.C. Escher posters, blacklights, all manner of tobacco products, rolling papers, cigars, hookahs, and of course, pipes, bowls, and bongs made of all manner of materials. Inside there are beaded curtains, a big ole magic-eye picture of Bob Marley, and other stoner paraphernalia. There’s a back room with couches that’s semi-private – preferred customers only!

The target market ranges from the general consumer to the more technical electronics hobbyist.

The store privately owned and the appearance is more cluttered than the sleek big box stores. The sales associates tend to be thought of as more knowledgeable than those of the big box electronics stores as well.

PURRS & GRRS
Pet Adoption, Accessories, & Grooming Shop

Description:

Equipped to pamper any pet that's brought through, the Purrs & Grrs store has a wide selection of treats, accessories, grooming and other helpful tools to help any owner provide all the love and care that their furry counterparts deserve. The store is broken up into several sections - a grooming station where a professional will clip and shear your pet to the desired style, a section of merchandise from food to cleaning supplies, a section where adoptable animals are showcased, and a section where you can play with an animal of your choice if you intend to adopt. There's an EMPLOYEES ONLY door towards the back that leads to accessibility for the animal kennels, storage, and etcetera. The register is near the automatic sliding doors near the front of the store.

All of the employees are easily spotted since they have to wear borderline embarrassing animal costumes.

CHAMPIONSHIP VINYL
New and Used Record Store

Description:

Championship Vinyl is a little hole-in-the-wall of a shop whose setup, design, decor, and well, its very existence is at odds with the rest of the new, shiny, modern, luxe shops at the Oracle Mall. Staffed by a skeleton crew of slackers, stoners, music snobs, misanthropes, subculture aficionados, and other misfit toys, Championship Vinyl stocks all types of music from the most obscure underground to Top 40 hits (however much some of the employees might resent it).

The shop buys and sells CDs, LPs, and the occasional cassette tape, but if you plan to sell your music collection, be prepared to be judged.

There are literally tens of thousands of CDs in the store, if not more, along with a plethora of bins full of LPs, and even some cassette tapes. The walls are decorated with posters for the Violent Femmes, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, Portishead, The Sneaker Pimps, Radiohead, and a variety of other obscure and eclectic artists. There's a bit of merch available at the store, too -- a few band shirts, buttons, posters, and the like -- but the vast majority of the store's floor space is taken up by music, and some obscure, quality track is always playing in the background.

RAISING THE BARRE DANCE ACADEMY
Dance Studio

Description:

Raising the Barre is a small studio, consisting of three rooms. The first room, which is the reception area, faces out into the rest of the mall. It is decorated in shades of pink and cream, and is probably the frilliest, girliest place you've ever seen. There is a reception desk to the left, and to the right a few racks of things like ballet slippers and tutus that are available for purchase. The other two rooms are both studios, each with mirrored walls and barres alongside them. The rooms are rather more spacious than one might expect in a mall, and one might suspect a bit of judicious magic use in its setup.

SILVER SCREEN CINEMA
Movie Theater

Description:

Silver Screen Cinema is a decent sized theater, consisting of a large entrance room with a circular ticket desk in the middle, and several viewing rooms branching off. To the right of the room is a concession stand, complete with a popcorn machine and candy stand. The room itself is decorated with large movie posters that line the wall and silver star tiles with the names of famous actors on the floor.

All of the theaters have the same basic layout, and each can seat around sixty people. Consisting six rows of ten seats each, the various theaters show the most current films available, and are a rather popular haunt for those looking for some time to kill.

THE JUKEBOX GYRO
Food Court Restaurant

Description:

Composed of a kitchen, counter, and a half dozen tables, the Jukebox Gyro offers an array of tasty and affordable Greek favorites. The decor is classic white and blue tile with vases, sketches of the Greek pantheon, and a small bobble-head owl on top of the cash register that wobbles when a purchase is made. Classic rock plays from the back as guests dine - requests are available so long as they don't suck. Drink refills are free, and baklava is half-off on Fridays!

ALEXANDRIA'S TREASURE
Book Shop

Description:

Here, in the Oracle mall, a lovely little book shop stands. Run by the Deralis cousins, selling all manner of Modern and classic Muggle books, from fiction to self help. Textbooks to Graphic Novels. Don't see what you need, just ask Alesia and she will order it in for you. Wizards and Muggles alike are welcome here, but all is not what it seems. At the back of the store, much like the Leaky Cauldron, there is a door that only Magic folk can see, perceive or pass through. This will take them to the rare Magical texts shop that is run in tandem by Nicolai. Similarly, he is very adept at obtaining the rarest and most valuable of volumes so, anything you need to seek out, ask and he will delight in tracking it down for you. Although beware, you might be hard pressed to get him to give it up! All in all, this book shop has everything any Witch, Wizard or Muggle alike could ever want. All presented with a friendly service.

THE FROTHY BEAN
Café

Description:

The Frothy Bean is THE place to go in the Oracle Mall if you want an espresso, cappuccino, americano, latte.... about the only thing they don't have caffeinated is plain old regular coffee. Seriously, don't ask, you'll get stared at blankly or worse, laughed at.

The café itself is rather small: long and narrow. Most of the place is taken up by a skinny bartop that runs near the length of the shop. On one side stand a line of stools for patrons while behind the barristas work an impressive brass monstrosity to fulfill their orders.

The walls are unpainted red brick and the bartop 'distressed' wood. An old window hangs on the wall, frame painted a flaking white. The stools are made of gun metal, grey and some rusting; they are as uncomfortable as they look and most customers avoid them. You can tell the tourists from the regulars, just look at who is sitting on the torturous devices.

Overall the café is clean, but it has that made-over dirty look. Very grunge-beatnick chique.

GRYFFIN TATTOOS & ART
Tattoo Parlor

Description:

A small parlor tucked away in the mall, Gryffin Tattoos is proud to serve the residents of London. With [fairly] clean facilities, and a few pretty darn talented artists, they're a mash of rock music, sweat, and a mini-bar with cheap alcohol - no minors - that is dedicated to providing the best tattoos in London for a reasonable price.

The front of the store serves as a waiting room of sorts; the walls covered in large, blown up images of tattoos, with several couches and bean bags strewn about to make it more comfortable, and a tiny desk on one side that some manner of person is usually sitting at to greet the customers. It's not very nicely put together, but the tattooing is done in private rooms and they follow all the regulations and such for it, so who cares if it looks like the basement of a music junkie?

CREATIONS BY MARIELLE
Custom Clothing/Seamstress

Description:

Creations by Marielle is a new store, having only been open for around 8 months. Clients discuss with the shop owner their ideas for garments and clothing items and the owner will draw up a sketched design for the client's approval. Once approval has been given, the owner will obtain the client's measurements and then create the item and clients will return for a fitting. Once the fitting is complete, the owner will fix any adjustments that need to be made and clients will receive a final fitting before receiving the item. For a new business, there is a surprisingly decent amount of traffic and orders for the small shop. Prices are reasonable for the allotted time frame, difficulty of the garment, and labor and material costs. Prices do increase with rushed orders, so be sure to have plenty of time when ordering!

The storefront is simple and elegant. A small, delicately white with black detailed sign with "Creations by Marielle" on it hangs above the doors. Wide open windows to the left of the door, a bay-like window for displaying mannequins, with black wainscoting beneath the windows. Black trimmed double French doors open into the shop. Dark cherry hardwood floors cross the length of the shop. Once inside the shop, a client will see light pink walls, white storage cabinets behind a counter to the left, simple, clean, and a counter top of white marble on a dark cherry frame. Along the right wall of the shop are three changing rooms, a mannequin with a tailored, light grey suit, vest, shirt, and tie. The design of the suit top changes seasonally. The mannequin rests on a small table filled with personalized ties for men. Along the back wall are a plethora of different fabrics in all colors, textures, and thread counts. Additionally, ribbons, fabric flowers, lace, threads, buttons, and needles all line the back wall as well. Beneath the fabrics and sewing supplies is a long, white desk with a sewing machine. To the left of this is a door that leads to a storage room where the completed garments await pick-up and final fittings, and her in progress works, either waiting for first fitting, or awaiting completion.

CURL UP AND DYE
Beauty Salon

Description:

A small two chair salon owned by Charlie Aloysius located on the far end of the mall. The beauty salon appears as if the 1950s threw up all over this retro salon with bright nauseating colors. Two bright blue chair dryers are tucked in the corner and the two pastel pink leather styling chairs line the wall in front of large frameless mirrors, over top of the mirrors the phrase The Higher The Hair The Closer To Heaven sprawled across the pale yellow walls in swooping font. Several framed pictures of vintage ladies with fresh updos graced the walls near the waiting area. The front left of the store offers nail services and the back of house offers waxing, if you dare.
